Heroin Addiction

by quinster, Nov 26, 2007 07:22PM
Hi. I need some help and advice urgently.

My husband has been addicted to drugs for the last 12 years. We have been married for nearly a year, together for 3 and we have an 18 month old son.

He relapsed about 3 months after our son was born, his main problem was pure speed, but for the last 2 months he has been on heroin. he went to rehab for heroin about 5 years ago. he's been using more and more regularly, from once a week to now every 2-3 days.

I am terrified. i don't want to lose him but i just don't know what I can do to help him. He wants to stop, every time he does smack, he feels so guilty that he wants to kill himself. I don't want to be a 21 year old widow with our boy. i don't want to lose my man, i love him so much.

I just don't know what to do, or what to say, or how to help him. please please give me some kind of insight of to what I can do before it's too late.

hey there.  i hear ya.  there will be others along that will have more direct experience - - but i do have H in my history so just to say HI quickly & send you some support i will babble out some of my opinions.  i am only day 13 of pills so take it for what it is worth - i am not some acheived cured sober guy.  just a guy fighting the fight...  (how dramatic!!!)

my experience with H, with my own experience, and those very close to me, is every day you do it you are taking 1 step deeper.  if there is a "resolve" in your hubby i say SEIZE THE DAY.  do it now, today, or start researching it today.  again, someone with more experience will say some  more specific words - - but there are so many options - rehap, na, methadone, detox, beu-something, addiction drs.  if your hubby already has a history & is in the mix again i would imagine there is not one clear cut answer.  he (and you) should be a sponge of all the information out there.  hope more pass more specific answers on.

and for you a friends & family of narcotics ananymous (or if you can not find narcotics related friends & family groups you can also search alanon (even though alchohol based you will still find people in your position there).

everyone says it - it is your hubby's recovery & he has to find his way.  but it is great you are involved & supportive.

oh, i am sending you the best of wishes.  i hope someone can help out more than my babble.  you are not alone AT ALL!!!!!  and your family is #1.  :)

One thing I'm not clear on; has he been using this whole time? Or had periods of abstinence?
