2nd lumbar puncture and blod work

I'm new to the forum here so hello to all.  After a long battle this the doctors group I'm under, it looks like i might get my 2nd LP next week-the first one failed in march of this year.  Anyway, my question is this-i know i have to have my blood drawn again before the LP but what exactly are the tests needed for the blood draw.  My PCP really didn't know.  We think it's a complete blood count and glucose level??. Is there anything else for the blood draw?

Also is it normal not to have pain with the muscle spasms?  My muscles "Twitch" and "Dance" by themselves for hours some times but i really haven't had muscle cramps.  My son thinks it's kind of funny to see one muscle going by itself for a few mins, stop and then start again.  It's not painful but it can get very annoying and bothersome..  It happened earlier this moth and my PCP put me on a short course of Pred and it seemed to help-but tonight i can feel the "twitching" coming back.

Any reply would be greatly appreciated and I thank everyone in advance.

Thank you so much for all your comments.  I was beginning to think that maybe I was a lot nutts! (I know I am a little bit nutts normally!!)  Anyway, it seemd that everywhere I read about the spasm it always included pain and that I don't have.  I'm thankfull that I don"t and hopefully never will. I've just gotten so use to all the other little aches/pains/twitching/tingling/burning/pricklings etc.. that it would be added to the list that seems to continue to grow.  Thanks again for all your support and info; I truelly don't feel alone now!  Thanks and hugs to all :)

Yes, it is normal to get the twiches without pain.  I get those also, however I also suffer through the painful spasms in my back shoulder area, and it hurts.  I thought I had lung cancer the first time it happened (which lasted for months, not kidding) and my doctor sent me in for xrays and tests.  When he told me it was muscle spasms, I just didn't believe him because of how painful it was.  It hurt like a broken rib or ripped muscle is what I thought.  It hurt when I moved, bent, or breathed.  Be very grateful that you do not suffer from painful spasms, and I hope you never do.  Take care, Terrie

Hi,

Welcome to the site iv been on here since May this year but been having problems for over a year now and still waiting for a DX, i had a clear MRI of my brain and spine and iv just had another MRI of the lumber region and a EMG and LP i had blood taken at the same time of my LP too.

I thought it was to cross referance it with the fluid they take off your spine to test for disorders such as MS and also to see if there is any infection going on, i know the spinal fluid is used to test to see if the problem is Central Nervous System or not, but i dont have any medical knowledge to answer any more then that and i hope someone else will be able to answers your question.

As fro the muscle twitching i get that alot in the base of my back and my legs and my legs jerk out too, these are not painfull but they are annoying like you say and can become tiring, since iv been on lyrica they have got less, i also get the painfull spasm though and have them in my hips and the last two days in my neck and shoulder.

Take Care

Samantha

Hi,

Welcome here.

Can't help you with the tests to do with the LP, but am sure someone else will jump in.

I get muscle twitches - not painful at all.  And think they are pretty common.
