babygirl66' post

Before I share a personal good news that I have achieved today, I have a question:
Vicodin makes people lose weight?
I had used cocaine as part of my draconian fitness regime ( for weight loss. Hey,just because I aint genetically gifted to be an Olympian does not mean I cannot train/dope as one ), convinced that any amount of fat in my body will slow my pace and cost me precious time  and prevent me from that precious podium finish, wanted to eliminate any fat in my body to make room for more muscles.
It seemed that Vicodin is much too much, extremely more difficult to kick once taken, as I was able to kick cocaine immediately. And yes, am not experiencing any withdrawal at all ( though am cautiously on the lookout just in case ). So why would any friggin' physician dare prescribe it at all for pain medication when the price to pay is waaay to high?

I did. Cocaine. Not anymore, since 4 days ago, when MICHAEL_777 answered a crucial question that was at the root of my use.

You are right. I do put tremendous value on physical appearance, fine clothes, image of success and all things material. I will not apologise for it, as I try to put valuable time in spirituality as well, without which, none of the material rewards and manifestation will ever be possible. I am so limited, and I shall remind myself to approach everything with humillity and open-mindedness. I believe that as a perfect being, as all of us are, despite and because of our challengesal, it is our sole right to excell physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually. To be less is sacrilege. IN purusit of divine perfection, we may get sidetracked.though. And that's okay.We are only human. We will fail. But we will prevail in the end.

Doc, I quit cocaine, days ago, since I got here. I am insomniac, but I use chamomile tea and melotonin to go to bed. Never tried Valium, nor any kind of sleeping pill. Am really quite a bit of a bore and not as interesting as a subject when it comes to pharmaceutical experiences/experiment.

After reading your posts I believe you need to work on some core issues that may not be related to addiction.

As Eagle mentioned, there is not physical withdrawal from cocaine. However, the mental withdrawal will send you back out real quick if you don't keep it under check.

I have heard of people losing weight while taking pain medications, but it was not the case for me. I gained quite a bit of weight (for my height and structure). It was like poison in my system and I was bloated for years. It is a dangerous substance when abused.

I understand that you train but you seem to put a tremendous amount of emphasis on your weight and your appearance. I am concerned that it is not healthy for you. I hope that you are keeping that in check as well. So glad that you got away from the cocaine!!

Take care.

Ishtar83:

Usually Hydrocodone (Vicoin, Norco) is prescribed to people in legitimate pain with a low propensity to abuse it. It is used usually as a short-term pain management therapy for acute pain onset. Chronic or consistant pain is usually handeled with other types of medication, both narcotic and non-narcotic. These medications are usually SR (sustained release) tablets. Hydrocodone is very habit-forming and does cause patients to lose weight frequently, as it is a narcotic and tends to curb your natural appetite. People report losing lots of weight unintentially in a short period of time. Sometimes, this is not healthy. You should never use Cocaine in the first place, but if you choose to, please, for your safety, do not mix it with controlled narcotics such as Oxycodone or Hydrocodone. Also combining it w/ Benzodiazepines (Valium) can be lethal.

I must admit I am indeed ignorant in this field, as my experience with addiction area is just among friends and relatives that use club-wise then quit.A part of growing up, a right of passage, if you will. This Forum made me realize the true and real pain people  suffer and struggle to endure, it opened my eyes, and yes, Addiction and its effects is now REAL to me, thanks to this site and the people here, being generous and patient with my questions and ignorance, this in the midst of all your crises.
But what is baffling me from the start, is that doctors/physicians in US prescribe medications that get people more addicted ( I checked with 3 docs here yesterday and today, as part of my own research ): the doses of pain meds  dished out to patients here in Hong Kong suffering severe pain such as back surgery, aint as high as the one prescribed to you guys. Patients here also go through strct programs of acupuncture, chiropractor and chinese medicine consultations, herbal therapy, yoga, change of diet, psychiatric/psychological therapy, etc. , even spirituality that ( in my opinion )borders on superstitions, taking short courses related to their illness and recovery as attempt to take their mind off the pain, I guess.I don't know what it's like in Europe and their way of treatment there, but perhaps my instant and immediate reaction to iilless however mild or severe has a lot to do with my cultural exposure since childhood to the best of both East and West I was told that it is illegal here for docs to prescribe such doses and duration ( 3 months of painkillers and the resulting upping of doses is excessive ). But what do I know really. Maybe those conspiracy theorist friends of mine are  right (shiver ). Well, am sure there are a lot of modern support system there, like this wonderful site foir one...
Rooting for you all. Remeber what Aeschylus said, the grace of an Almighty Being will rescue each one of us, just when we thought we cannot do it on our own anymore.

Not sure how many profiles you've checked, but the "pharmaceutical salvation" you speak of is world wide.  Check the locations on where some of us are.  It's not just America affected, it's a little place I like to call Earth.  As long as there are addicts there will be someone around to make money on it.  As addicts we enable the pharmaceutical companies which in turn recruits more addicts.  It's a never ending cycle and can't be fought globally.  It's fought and won everyday here, individually!

Thank you 1eagle. I do need to know about physical withdrawal manifestations of coke and glad it aint ( maybe ) gonna happen. Personality-wise I guess none as well, as I have been known to be an arsehole in my circle, and my may to keep my core circle of friends/errandboys/girls in their place. They need not know I spend Christmas with elderly people in nursing homesas a volunteer, or pay rent for halfway houses for homeless people. Maybe am just really an arse in real life.
Babanker07, I also hang out with eccentric intellectuals/conspiracy theorists here, and I know they are going to have a field day, convinced evermore that there is indeed one single powerful entity bent on enslaving everyone  to slowly but surely live a life in a fog and suffering at best, while emptying their pockets to buy more of their promised pharmaceutical salvation. And yes, they'd start with the Americans ( my mother is a Japanese-American from Boston, third generation, she's a doctor ), as this is the current superpower, supereconomy: God I hope to be dead ( and my descendants ) by the time the rest of America falls apart.  But you know what, I think it aint EVER gonna happen. Eagle, Horus, Archangel Michael - that is America ( now am talking supernatural ).

The Doc's prescribe because lots of people can handle it fine. But there are some of us that can not handle it. I also had a full tilt coke thing going in the pre Miami Vice days....quit it a dozen times lol!!! You won't find a physical withdrawal with the coke, and that makes a big diff! Just because it is bad in a mental way it doesn't manifest itself to others as readily. That does not mean that it isn't just as large a problem to the individual addressing the stuff. Stay on the lookout and I hope that you are pleasantly suprised....................remain dedicated to quiting and stay strong. The mental part can come up and bite you in the a** so very fast.

Hi Ishtar83, usually it gets prescribed for a short amount of time to help numb a back surgery, or any moderate to severe pain for that matter.  In turn what happens with a lot of us, well for me for example is I saw a Dr about my lower back pain, from there they prescribed me lortab 10 for a 3 month period, after my pain wasn't lessened, they sent me to a pain management specialist who in turn ends up prescribing me even stronger meds (percocet 10/ roxicodone 30) for another 6 months, by this time I'm addicted, and speaking for myself only, my Dr's really didn't care much, it was always about the money for them, and in turn most of us have to find a way to kick our habit on our own.  Believe me, if I would have known in the past that this could have been avoided I would have taken that route, however, I am happy for what I've gone through seeing as it's made me wiser now.
