A Bit here and a Bit there

by Barb64, Dec 03, 2007 12:48PM
I have been short of breath doing little things.  I have been dx with left ventricular hypertrophy, diastolic dysfunction, SVT, trivial regurgitation in a couple of valves, and trivial amount of pericardial effusion. Also peripheral artery disease and carotid artery disease.  I also experience autonomic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy.  From what I read most of what I have are symptoms of underlying disease but my doctors make light of everything and tell me just keep taking my toprol xl.
My cardiologist denies my SOB is from my heart.  He says I am deconditioned.  I have been on crutches since April, 2006.  Trust me, it takes energy and exercise to lug this body around.  Taking a shower causes SOB.  I need some help.  Is my doctor not doing his job as was suggested by another doctor this morning?

My cardiologist was concerned about my echo result (showed mild vantricular hypertropy, mild diffused hypohines of left ventricle, mild tricuspid regurgatation, aortic sclerogis atrial septal aneurysm and an LV ejection fraction of 45%) and order a cath. When the cath showed nothing but my below normal ejection fraction he too did a about face & told me my symptoms were NOT cardiac in nature. I continued to have symptoms and sought advice from the online 'Heart Forum" at the Cleveland Clinic. Below is what their doctor said, which is good advice if you are not sure if you getting the care you feel you deserve.

uniqueldy Unique,

By your echocardiogram you have LV dysfunction which is not normal. While your chest pains aren't from coronary blockages, it is concerning that you are continuing to have symptoms. The most concerning thing however is the decrease in your LV function. I would look into seeking evaluation from a heart failure specialist. They would look into other causes of your cardiac dysfunction and also look into making sure you are on the proper medications to optimize your cardiac fucntion.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
