Conclusive HBV results?

by empgraph, Dec 04, 2007 08:39AM
Hello Doctor, 4 months ago I had a sexual exposure with an unknown status person (HBV status unknown). 2 months later, I took a HBsAg test, which came back negative.

After reading about HBV, I found out that I needed more tests, so 4 months after the exposure I took another test:

- HBsAg Negative (surface antigen) <0,010 UI/mL
- anti-HBc Negative (I don't know if it's the IgM or the "general" one, I supose the second one...)

My doctor says that I'm negative HBV, it's conclusive he says. I haven't developed any sypmtoms.
I think he is right, I looked some serology tables and it seems that this Negative/Negative means that I am not infected or maybe I was vaccinated years ago (maybe I was, I don't remember)

I would like to confirm that everything is OK and I don't need further testing. Is this 4-month test enough? Thank you very much for your help.

P.D. I also was tested for HIV and Hep C, 4 months later and both of them were Negative (PCR test)

Your doctor probably knows as much about HBV testing as I do.  We don't test for HBV very much in most STD clinics, and certainly not in the situation you describe.  To my knowledge, he is correct.  Your negative HIV and HCV results also are reliable.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
