I am a 41 year old female who was recently Dx with Lynch syndrome. As a screening test I had a urine cytology which showed atypical cells. This was repeated twice and came back the same. I then had a cystoscopy with a retrograde pyelogram which was apparently normal.  Four months later my urologist did a Urovysion which came back positive along with another abnormal cytology. Can you tell me the false positive rate for the urovysion test and the likelihood something would be missed on the pyelogram.  Thank you.

Hi,
The false positive test of Uro Vysion is about 20%. the best test to do is still the cystoscopy, which will also provide a biopsy (this is the gold standard).
The pyelogram s not routinely done to look for disease along the urinary tract, due to the more prevalent use of CT or MRI, hence good data on statistics aren't readily available.
