Herceptin question

by polkadottie55, Dec 05, 2007 12:02AM
I have had a modified radical mastectomy ER+ Pr- , 2 of 23 lymph nodes +, ECE observed,  with IDC for Her2 equivocal, followed by two different FISH tests, both equivocal.  Another block is being examined.  If the results are very low positive, or still equivocal, do you think Herceptin should be used?  My oncologist doesn't know for sure, and is going to ask colleagues.  Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Sorry. I could not grasp your question.
Can you be little more informative.

I had surgery, and at the time of surgery, the Her2 test was "equivocal"  meaning it was not unequivocally positive or negative.  I then had the Her2 status tested by FISH.  Again, equivocal.  It was repeated a third time, again equivocal results.  I want an opinion on whether choosing Herceptin is appropriate, as it may be possible to get Herceptin, but I don't know if it is wise.

Hi,
Now your receptor analysis carried out on the breast specimen has turned out to be equivocal, but still it seems to  be on the positive side. The analysis on this receptor is done to aid in choosing the appropriate therapy. Now, herceptin is the drug of choice for the tumours which are tested positive for Her 2 neu receptors.
We will still wait for the next block to be examined and decide upon the drug based on the result.
