eye redness

hello,,

I have not had many eye problems other than i am slightly far sighted and about 4 weeks ago i had gotten on the outter part of my right eye on the white part gotten red as if it was blood shot and it hasn't gone away .... its not itchy nor is anything coming from it its just red i am not to sure if its an emergency i dont like going to the doctors i was just wondering if its something i should worry about ... and what it could be ?

If it is blood red, and there is no pain and no decrease in vision then its probably a spontaneously broken blood vessel and no treatment is indicated. (provided your not on coumadin (warfarin) in which case your INR test needs repeated.

If it is not blood red and is pink and irritated it could be an episcleritis which is like tennis elbown only on the surface of the eye. in that case you will need to see an Eye MD physician (ophthalmologist). You can go to www.aao.org and find one near you.

FYI no-one likes to have to go to the doctor's office me included.
