by palmas001, Dec 06, 2007 08:40PM
Hi my question is if a reused lancet used for Rapid test Oraquick was reused is that a risk of transmission. I undertand that is unlikely but if it was is it? Thanks!

Most, if not all, lancets are designed so that it is impossible to reuse them.  Even if it was reused, it would have to have been used immediately before you, within seconds to a minute, on an HIV + person.
And even then, lancets are not hollow needles, and they are extremely small gauge needles.  So they would be terribly inefficient at transmitting HIV, even if they had just been used on an HIV+ person, which it more than likely wasn't in the first place.

Large bore, hollow needles can be a resevoir for infection.  Lancets do not fall in this category at all.
