olfactory hallucinations

Hello Sir,
I have been on effexor for about 2 years now - 300 mgs. During that time I have had about 5 or 6 two week episodes where I’ve sensed an unpleasant odor filling my nasal cavity. It’s most prominent through the night and when I arise in the morning. The taste of food also seems to be filtered through this odor when I eat.  Could this be a side effect of effexor, or are there other things that could cause these symptoms?
Many thanks,
olRonB
