hsv 1 or 2, what test to trust

About 2 wks ago on a Friday night I felt the syptoms of a UTI, after about a day my vagina area was sore, it felt like I had a tiny cut, Monday I went to the doc, was tested for a UTI, they confirmed that I had a UTI, they gave me meds that afternoon on the way home my entire body started to ach, by that night I felt like I was hit by a train every part of me hurt from my hair to me toes, the next morning I woke up and my vagina was even more sore, I checked my self and noticed small blisters,I called my gyno back, went that day and she advised me from an exam that I have herpes, she also did a swab of the sores and I had blood test done. I came home told me boyfriend, he called his doc the next day and got an appt for that coming Monday, he got his results back and they are neg. I do remember my boyfriend had a cold sore on his lips and he performed oral sex on me, is a cold sore and herpes the same thing? His results came back Negative, could he have herpes and it not show in the test? If so what test should he ask his doc to do to be sure if he has it or not? O yeah my boyfriend and I had sex the night before I felt my syptoms of the UTI which I learned was the start of my outbreak. Is it possible to pass herpes on if I do not have an outbreak and do not have any signs or syptoms of an outbreak? My doc gave me Valtrex to take 1x/day, will taking this prevent it from being spread to my boyfriend if he does not have it? Would any herpes test show if you do or don't have 1 or 2? Could a male have herpes and it not show in the tests? He had a blood test.

1. Are you sure he had a cold sore and not a pimple?
2. Ask him what blood test he had performed? IgM is worthless.
3. If he recently acquired herpes his system may not have developed antibodies yet to show on a test.
4. Is it possible you caught herpes from someone else in the past. Outbreaks do sometimes take time to reveal themselves.
