23 years old, random painful tinglings in different spots on legs, feet, arms and hands, very brief blackouts when changing positions or from dark to light room, burning pain in wrists, and restless cracking fingers

I am 23 years old.

Two months or so ago, I started blacking out for a few seconds every time I:
1.  Stood up from being seated, or
2.  Walked from a bright lit room to a dark one (and vice versa).

Soon after, I felt a really strong, painful tingling sensation in my left toe (where it started) up to my left calf.  That was when other similar sensations (in only my legs, feet, arms and hands) started appearing at night, before I fell asleep.  Now, they also appear during the day.

Now, in combination with the above symptoms, my wrists feel like they are burning and fingers feel like they are falling off.  I don't know if this is important but my fingers, for as long as I can remember, have always cracked very easily without effort.  If I shake my hand or bend my fingers even slightly, a popping noise will occur.  So I flex my fingers and wrist a lot.  This might be a separate problem for the blackouts and painful tingles.

I think it's about time I see a doctor.  I haven't been able to sleep at all for the past week; I think this is because I am now very worried, not because this is yet another undiagnosed symptom.  But here I am, up at 8am, with only two hours of sleep.  Yesterday, I slept at 7am and woke up at 3pm.  My body is so out of whack.

...I've played sports and exercised pretty regularly for the past six years.  I am 95 pounds, 4 feet 11 inches tall.  I am trying to eat vegetables now...maybe my diet isn't so good because of this.  I had high blood pressure for a year or so.  I don't smoke or drink.  I just started taking daily multivitamins yesterday...

One last thing, my mom is diagnosed with a motor neuron disease.  She was first diagnosed with limb girdle muscular dystrophy though until after countless surgeries and tests, the doctors decided to resort to this broad group of diseases.  I am not sure if I have this too because it's not supposed to be hereditary.  But it is a possibility, unfortunately.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I agree with you - it is definitely time for you to seek a doctor regarding this.  This could be nothing serious at all but its important for you to get checked out (especially if you are unable to sleep because of it).

In terms of blacking out when standing up, this is often related to a a sudden drop in blood pressure (when you stand too quickly, the blood pools away from your brain which can cause one to faint).  I haven't heard of people fainting when walking from a dark to bright room - is it possible this happened after you stood up too quickly but managed to walk a little way first?

The cracking and popping of joints along with burning is not uncommon - you may have a little arthritis also. The painful tingling in your toe/leg could be due to a pinched nerve.

Since your mother has a  motor neuron disorder it is easy to jump to conclusion that your symptoms signify the beginnings of this disorder  however, there are MANY causes for the symptoms which you display and most of these are relatively begin.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

It was very comforting to hear examples of other causes for these symptoms; I definitely don't want any serious reasons.  I guess my mind did jump to conclusions.  My older sister, who also has burning sensations in her wrist and muscle spasms, gave me the name of two doctors (a couple specializing in nutrition, acupuncture, and therapy).  Hopefully they will be able to help me out.

Again, thanks for answering.  I appreciate your kindness!
