My cousins son has ADD . Upon taking the the medication to calm his enegetic son , he has been suffering from depression , and has been having events when he falls asleep during a daily activity . His parents are concerned that this may lead to some thing worst . I want to know if there is any different types of better medication that wont have these results and what we should do please help out my cousin .

It could be the dose of the meds- maybe he is taking too many milligrams.Or, it could be that he has not been prescribed the best meds for him:

FIND OUT:
- the meds he is taking,
- what kind/bran? Is he taking Ritalin? Concerta? Adderall? Alternative Meds?
- how many milligrams,
- how many times a day,
- whether or not he is on other types of medications and/or has other health problems.

Put all of this info -- along with his age, when he got diagnosed & how long he has been on the meds, and how long he has been depressed and falling asleeo - and address your email to the FORUM DOCTOR.

Some of the meds can lead to depression but you haven't put enough info. That said, this sounds really distrubing and something needs to be done. Has anyone informed his doctor? How has the doctor responded?

Can you get a second opinion? Maybe find a good doctor/psychiatrist/neurologist/SPECIALIST who has treated many people/children with ADD? If the doctor is not familiar with ADD and/or has too many patients to focus on your cousin's son, you all need to go elsewhere. If you have decent insurance and live in a medium to large town, this is much easier to do.

How old is this kid?
