Staple left in me

by Jamie205, Dec 10, 2007 08:11PM
Hi I had my appendix removed about 2 months ago everything has healed normally.  However, the surgeon used staples to close the wound and off to the side of the scar it feels like a piece one of the staples has been healed over.  He was in a big rush when he removed them and I think part of it was broken off.

My question is this something I have to worry about?  Its isn't causing any discomfort or pain I just didn't know if it would cause problems down the road if it were a staple?  I am assuming it was sterile would leaving be have any negative implications?  Thanks in advance.

Well, President Andrew Jackson (the guy on the twenty dollar bill) had a 240 grain lead ball in his shoulder for 45 years, so a piece of sterilized staple isn't the worse thing in the world. Sometimes these things work themselves out. Ask your surgeon for an opinion. I would forgive him.  These things happen, and the chances are there will be no serious implications. If there was going to be an infection you would have had it already.
