for doctors..retest?

ok, short and sweet...

I'm a straight male, got drunk, curious, had male-male sex.  mutual oral, received anal with condom.  I felt him *** a little inside.  to my knowledge the condom stayed in tact, I felt it only because it was warm, and pulled it out immediately once I felt this.
I found out several weeks later that he was HIV +ve.
As you can imagine, I was flipping out, not sleeping, etc etc...
at day 20 after the encounter I got sick, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection.  Took antibiotics (Z-pack) and that was that.
at 8 weeks I got rapid tested and it came back neg.

questions:
1) would cumming in the condom have exposed me to the virus?

2) would a sinus infection at day 20 represent the initial manifestation of the virus usually occurring 10-14 days after exposure?  Is it normally in the form of a  sinus infection?  I have a relatively strong immune system, would that have pushed it back to 20 days instead of 10-14 days?

3)would rapid testing at week 8 suffice, or should I be retested?

sorry, forgot to ask...

I have not been sick since then, it's been a year.  would I have had other symptoms by now ?

also girlfriend was diagnosed with gastritis, is that something found in only advanced cases or is that something that could come on within the first year after exposure?

all help greatly appreciated!!!

There is no doctors on this forum.
1. no, that's what condoms are for.
2. no and you didn't have a risk
3. you didn't need the first test let alone another.

I'm sorry I'm new to the forum?
not to sound rude or anything, but I'm looking to calm my nerves and would like solid educated advice...who are you? any credentials?  I've seen you post several times in others posts.

I'm sorry I just read your profile...thanks for the help, any thoughts on my second round of questions?
bout my girlfriend and the first year symptoms?

by Teak, Dec 11, 2007 09:11AM
There are a number of reasons for one to have gastritis. It not HIV/AIDS specific, anyone can get gastritis.

by anon1010, Dec 11, 2007 09:12AM
I understand that, but I also know it is a symptom of advanced HIV, just curious if it could also be a symptom of HIV after only a year or so after exposure.

Are you saying that she could have been infected before she met you?

by anon1010, Dec 11, 2007 09:24AM
no, from exposure to me.

also I should mention that I have HSV-2, Do you think that me having that would increase my exposure risk to contracting HIV?

What part of protected sex is it that you don't understand? You can't give her anything that you didn't have a risk of getting.

Test for what? He had protected sex.

teak-
Is gastritis a symptom of early stages? that was my original question...

I understand what you're saying about safe sex, but I keep replaying the scenario in my head, all it would take is a slight tear or break in the condom to expose me...

chrisneedshelp-
I did test at 8 weeks, it was negative, do you think that is sufficient?

by Teak, Dec 11, 2007 09:42AM
No gastritis, is not a symptom of early stages and as I've told you it has nothing to do with you because you didn't have a risk.

by anon1010, Dec 11, 2007 09:46AM
I appreciate it.

1) no
2) no
3) yes

A test at 8 weeks is sufficient, I agree with the previous posters, you're fine.  Try to be more careful in the future.

by regularjoey, Dec 11, 2007 12:43PM
By "more careful" I mean that HIV status has to be discussed BEFORE sex IN ADDITION to wearing a condom, if you are going to have gay sex.  And obviously, don't mix anonymous sex with alcohol/drugs.

Can't get this out of my head...I'm almost obsessed with getting on here every other day and reading other posts and seeing if anyone had symptoms similar to mine, but then I'm also reading that symptoms are irrelevant and some don't get them and they vary greatly, so what's the point of discussing them?!!?
also all the doctors say that 8 week testing is not sufficient and get the 12 week test?!?!

have any of you ever seen an 8 week negative test turn positive later?

I'm just trying to put this to bed, but it is very hard...every so often this will pop in my head and make me worry all over again like day one...
????????

You didn't have a risk. Move on.

by alienshadow, Jan 03, 2008 05:57PM
look you will hear all kinds of stories you have to get tested and learn to cope with that once you stress the mind and body out it takes time to believe anything for a while

by anon1010, Jan 03, 2008 06:03PM
I don't understand how can you say that so conclusively?
it was dark..how do I know the condom didn't break or tear?

that's the only thing standing between me and HIV is a little piece of latex??  all it would have taken was a slight tear?

these are the things going through my head...

is my 8 week conclusive enough to move on from this?!?!
