Hypothyroidism & hemochromatosis

I recently learned that I have a mild level of hypothyroidism. As a 64 year old male with only few typical symptoms that may possibly be attributed to the condition I was surprised. I wonder if the fact that I also have hemochromatosis may be a factor that caused my slightly low thyroid level. I have scanned the literature quickly, and found the possibility of a connection between hypothyroidism and hemochromatosis, but nothing definitive. It seems as if the studies sugguest that there MAY be some statistical significance in mutual occurances of these two conditions, but no clear causal links. Maybe the studies that I looked at are not particularly recent. Does anyone have further, hopefully more definitive info about this topic?
