HPT Question..

by danielle72007, Dec 12, 2007 08:50PM
Well I'm 6 weeks pregnant today and I'm very concerned  with this pregnancy since I've had the prior miscarriage in Feb.  I took my first test on Nov 27th and it was clearly positive along with the one in the morning on the 28th.. then I went to the ER on the 28th for cramps which they again confirmed the pregnancy..with an HCG level of 175 and I was almost 4 weeks at that point. My appointment isn't till January 2nd and I haven't had any morning sickness so today I thought I would just go and get a cheap pregnancy test and take it and see if the lines were much darker or what.. I probably shouldn't do that but I felt like it would reassure me a little bit. WELL I took the test and the pregnant or not pregnant window came up with the plus sign.. The vertical line was very very dark, the horizontal one was dark but not as dark.. the control line was barely barely visible.. I can see  where the line is its just very light.. what does this mean?? Did I get an defective test or what?? Does this still mean its positive?? I know I should relax a little bit.. its just hard and I still have to wait 3 more weeks for my appointment I thought it would reassure me but now that the test did that I'm not so sure.. I really don't think I've miscarried or anything of that sort.. the plus sign was significantly darker than the ones I've taken a few weeks ago. I guess the whole faulty test has bothered me more.. what do you guys think??

Are you using the same doctor that handled you when you miscarried?  Does your doctor know you miscarried? I would call that office back and tell them at the very least you want blood work done to check your hormone levels. I am 34 and have had problems with conceiving due to PCOS. My hormones have been up and down for years and I know I was lacking progesterone several years back with my first son. When I called my (new) doctor here and told them I took a pregnancy test and it came up postive and I was very concerned about my progesterone levels they got me in the next morning. My hormone results were back in 2 hours.
You need to stress your concerns with your doctors office so that they can handle you accordingly. Jan is a long time to wait especially considering your previous miscarriage.
As for your test, I wouldn't worry about that. I took one the monring after I called the doctors office to verify and it was lighter than the original one I had taken. When I went to the doctor and had my hormones checked I was at 1600 and 300 is pregnant. But that test didn't make me feel that way.
Keep your chin up and think positive thoughts. Keep us posted.

These situations just tear me up! Honestly, it could go either way. All hpts are not the same sensitivity, even when in the same box. Some will never be as dark as the control line. That's the good side.  I did the same thing last pg. I didn't feel sick one am, which is weird for me. Did an FRER and the line was very, very faint. Went to store, bought 3 different brands, some were faint, some bfn. Mine ended in mc the next am. I hope you just got some weak tests. I would call the dr and see if they will call in a beta to the lab for you to ease your mind. I know exactly how you feel right now. And by the time your appt arrives, you'll have died from an anxiety attack! Call them and express your concerns, calm and very sweetly. They should call it in for you.

The plus sign is soo dark.. it stands out soo well.. its just the control line that isn't as dark.. the pregnant sign in like 100 times more dark than the control line so its definately a positive result.. I just can't figure out why the control line would be so light when my pregnant sign is sooo incredibly dark
