Invading Thoughts

by MayMay1979, Dec 12, 2007 08:52PM
I keep having these invading thoughts coming into my head.  I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 1 with psychotic features and generalized anxiety disorder.  The thoughts are usually completely opposite of how I am or who I am.  Like I will be praying and curse words will pop into my mind, or I'll be watching TV and I'll think I wish you would just die.  Sometimes the thoughts don't even make any sense at all.  Like I need to go to so and so's house and pick that box up, and I don't really, it just popped in my head.  The other night I think I was actually arguing with the thoughts.  What is this and how can I get rid of it?  I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Hi my name is Ladina,

I'd stick with the doctor's advice in regard to what is happening to you as people online will come up with lots of different advice for you which could get very confusing and they aren't the professionals. I know it would confuse me.

I suffer from psychotic episodes and depression plus anxiety and sometimes I get thoughts like that.

I have had very similar experiences lately along with severe depression.  The last couple of  weeks were the worst ever because of these thoughts haunting me.  My doc just added abilify to the lamictal I was taking and it seems to be starting to help.  He said these thoughts (also called intrusive thoughts, I believe) border on psychosis, and that some doctors consider them to be and some don't.  Just know you are not alone and a doctor can help you find a medication that may help you get those awful thoughts to stop.

I sometimes get ticked off about my brain wandering off on tangents.  It is almost as if it were it's own entity.  Talk about multi-tasking.  Try an exercise where you try to focus on one single object and keeping that thought in your mind all by itself.  Remember bd is not a mental problem but a phsilogical problem with chemicals in the brain.

I have that also and  also if it gets really bad hallucinations that are mild. I think I see things out of the corner of my eyes...very scary! I thought I had something worse than bipolar but my doctor said it's part of the type I have when I am under extreme stress. I'm on Geodon and it goes away immediately. As for the intrusive thoughts,I personally find if I ignore it and just let it happen they seem to go away. At first when I experienced it I was so upset by it they were getting worse but now I don't focus on them or let it upset me and they eventually go away.My mind in never quiet!
