progesterone

by mocool, Dec 13, 2007 08:31AM
My wife is in her 7th week, her progesterone level dropped from 50nmol/l in her 6th week to 41.47 nml/l in the beggining of the 7th week. my questions are how low is 41.47? Her doctor prescribed 200 mg of Utrogestan a day for 30 days. Is there any thing else that can be done to raise her progesterone level? How low Is considered dangerous?

Thank you

Hello,

Sorry for the delay.  In an established pregnancy (fetal pole w/+Fetal heart) there is no known threshold value for progesterone, or pattern of change that is highly predictive of a pregnancy outcome.  Additionally, there is no evidence supplemental progesterone in this setting is beneficial (that's not to say it is not commonly prescribed).

Best wishes,

Dr. Downing

There are natural progesterone creams if your wife feels it is necessary to continue to elevate the progesterone levels, but it is a bit less scientific and measurable and she should consult her doc.  She can use a little or a recommended amt. and see how her body reacts.   I bled a bit at 7 weeks and used some.  It was reassuring and the bleeding turned brown and then stopped as pg symptoms increased again. Then I slowly stopped using it and I am 10 weeks now with no bleeding.  Good luck.
