My 15 yr old daughter

by Kgant, Dec 13, 2007 04:17PM
How do I stop my 15 yr old aughter from lying to me all the time? She lies about any and everything and then when she is caught in her lie, she acts like it's our fault. She has ran away from home twice, just to hang with her friends. She has lied to her teachers so much that they don't believe anything she tells them whether she's telling the truth or not. I don't know when to believe her, she has lied so much. I can't trust her anymore and that scares me. What do I do? HELP! I don't want to give up on my child, but I don't know what else to do.

From your post, it sounds like you may be too strict on her. Is she allowed to spend time with friends? attend school functions? etc. If you pull the reins too tightly trying to protect them at this age it will sometimes backfire causing her to do all the things you are trying to prevent. Children lie because they do not want to get into trouble as a result of telling the truth. Whatever the reason for her behavior, if something does not change she is going to get into deeper water so to speak. I would sit down and talk to her, explain to her how you feel, just like you did here. Let her know because of her lying, you feel you cannot trust her which affects how much freedom she gets. These friends she is running away to be with, are they bad kids? on drugs? alcohol? into sex? Why does she feel she has to run away to see them?
