Post Abortion Cystitis

by Studentka, Dec 15, 2007 08:48AM
I m a student studying in Russia. Yesterday i had a vaccum abortion and i was 3.5 weeks pregnant. Now i m having cystitis. Frequent urination, burning sensation n etc. i have experienced this before and i usually take amoxicillin and it cured. since i just had an abortion and currently taking some antibiotics and anti fungal drugs provided by the Drs here, i dunno whether i should take amoxicillin to stop the cystitis. and do i hv 2 see the Dr?? i m not having any fever or any signs of complication. I m trying to avoid to see the drs here bcoz of the language barrier and the Russians dun speak english and i speak very bad russian!! besides that after the abortion, they do not give any follow up appointment. so u can imagine how bad is the system here. i need to also know is it ok to not have a follow up check up?? because i read everywhere and they say its necessary for a check up after 2 weeks.

Hello,

You should go back and be seen.  The antibiotics you were given may not cover the type of bacteria causing the cystitis.

Typically a follow up appointment is made after all procedures.  If you are well and without complaint (and given the social-cultural issues) that choice is up to you.
Best regards,

I don't know about cystitis, but  if you don't want to go see the doctors over there, then who is it that performed your abortion? The reason you've read about the importance of having  a follow up visit is probably because it is medically necessary. Don't you think?  Did some back ally "doc" do this procedure on you? And what is more,  maybe some birth control is in order? Perhaps it would have been easier not to have unprotected sex, and then you wouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place and decided to get rid of another human being? I don't know, just trying to help. I would suggest you definitely see a doctor, as abortion can have many complications if it's not done properly and even when it is, it can cause problems, and you might not feel too badly, but that is still no reason not to see a proper physician. You really need to see your doctor and stop having unprotected sex so that this does not happen again. Also, I'd get tested for hiv and other std's as becoming pregnant is not the only consequence of having unprotected sex.  Take care and hope you find a doc who can speak english, I'm sure there are some there.
