Low BP

by tjsangel87, Dec 15, 2007 11:21AM
I am 38 year old female.  I was having dizzy spells and blurred vision.  I felt like my breathing has become very shallow at times.  I have a wrist bp cuff so I have been taking my bp.  My ranges are from 89/44 - 106/44.

I went to the ER where I work and was told I just had a virus.  Suspecting more, I asked for a echo be done and found out that I have fluid around my heart, a leak in my Mitral valve and one in my tricuspid.

I am wore out and dizzy all of the time.  Could this be something serious?  Or should I just wait it out and see if the fluid clears up by itself?

Viral myocarditis or pericarditis is common and that may be all that's happening to you.  Most people do recover from this fully, but there is a small cohort of patients who go on to develop heart failure.  You are doing all the right things by listening to your body and following up with you physicians.  If your symptoms do not resolve in a few weeks, I would seek some more opinions.  The likelihood that you will not recover, however, is exceedingly low.  As far as the valves are concerned, I am assuming that the leaks are mild.  If that is not the case you should definitely see a cardiologist who can reassess you and decide what to do next.  If this is all valve, not virus related, you will need more testing, and if the valve is severely leaky, consideration for surgery should be given.  Of course, I have not seen your echo and can't tell which of the processes is more likley, but it sounds like you need to have some more follow up on your condition.

I have also had blood work done.  My WB count keeps dropping.  In 5 days it has dropped .26 and the platlet count is climbing.  Could this also be a sign of a virus.

The climbing platelt count may be a sign of an ongoing infection, however, this is very non-specific.
