BRCA 1 / 2

Has anyone been told they have both BRCA 1 and 2.  I haven't come across any information on whether this puts you at an increased risk.  I was diagnosed with OVCA in Jan. of this year at age 43.  I'm taking Arimidex and Megace to try and prevent  a OVCA recurrence and to prevent breast cancer.  However, my doctor thinks I should consider a double masectomy to help my chances.

If you have tested positive for both BRAC 1 and 2 , your chances of getting breast cancer also is high.  There were just  a group of 3 sisters in the news, all tested positive and all decided to have breasts, and hystos done. All were in their 40ts and had children, alot of OVCA and breast cancer in their mothers, aunts and grandmothers.

A woman’s lifetime chance of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she inherits an altered BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Women with an inherited alteration in one of these genes have an increased risk of developing these cancers at a young age (before menopause), and often have multiple close family members with the disease. These women may also have an increased chance of developing colon cancer.
