How can I make sure?

by petunia0580, Dec 15, 2007 08:57PM
I am 39 and do get yearly pap smears.  I am adopted so I'm not sure about my medical history but I have not had a pregnancy, had 17 rounds of Clomid and have been in peri-menopause since my late 20s.  I know I am a prime candidate for OC.  I asked my OB/GYN at my last appointment about a vaginal ultrasound (I had one last year for a screening) but she said I would have one next year.  My mom (not blood related of course) has stage IV OC and had breast cancer about 12 years ago.  The doctor has said something about genetic testing (because of the two cancers) but doesn't know I'm not related.  If I get tested is it a good thing?  Do they test according to their DNA?  Should I just let them test and not mention not being related (it's the only way insurance will cover it)?
