follicular adenoma

Hello, I had an operation in March 07 to remove a follicular adenoma.This resulted in my thyroid becoming under active. I'm currently on 100 mcg Thyroxine daily plus medication for high BP and cholesterol. Since the operation I've had great discomfort with my throat & neck and it's causing me much stress. I went for a barium swallow last week and I'm waiting for the results. Is it possible that internal scar tissue could be causing my problems? I know that I'm stressed but that's only due to the constant discomfort and I feel no one is taking my problem seriously. Thank you for any help and advice you can give me.

How was your diagnoses made? I have a follicular neoplasm that they want to remove, and I am concerned that "stuff'' like what is going on with you will happen to me as well. If yours was only an ''adenoma'', why did you have it removed, as I was told these are not cancerous. Was it large, or growing fast?

Hi, originally my GP thought it was a small goitre but referred me to hospital consultant who arranged an ultrasound. That resulted in a FNA (which was competely pain free) but the results were inconclusive and they thought it best to remove it because there was a chance it might have been malignant. The op went went smoothly but they had to do a partial removal of the thyroid. I then had to wait nearly a month for the results (not unusual in the UK). Thankfully,it was benign but the op resulted in my thyroid becoming underactive and I'm now taking Thyroxine. It might be pure coincidence I've had all these problems but I do think it's related to the op.Just need to find out what's causing all my current problems because it's getting me down. Please don't let my experience put you off. The op was no problem and my medical care was excellant. Good luck and wish you all the best.
