Painful urination

Dr.

Yesterday, i was having sex with a condom that had spermicide on it, which I have used before without issues.  Midway thru sex, I got a stinging pain in the tip/opening of the penis and stopped the sex. I went to urinate and it really hurt-a burning, stinging pain.  It didn't go away by today so I went to the Doc and got a urinalysis.  The test came back totally clean for infection.

I was fine all that day before the incident during sex, no pain with urinating or anything.  The doc said it could be from the spermicide getting in the urethra and irritaing it.  Does this sound right? How long would it take for the urethra to recover?  Could it still be an STD infection?  Seems to be a little better now but to be sure its not an infection, i was given cipro and another antibiotic to cover chlamydia and gonohhrea.

Thanks for your input

The spermicide, or some other irritant, is the only possible explanation.  Soap in the urethra causes the same symptoms, for example if you washed vigorously soon after sex.  (But almost certainly the spermicide in your case, given when the pain started.)  No STD can cause pain or any other symptom until at least 2 days later and your negative tests show you didn't have anything.  You didn't need the antibiotics, but they won't do any harm.

The pain probably will clear up within another day or two, if it hasn't already.  If that happens, don't worry about it.  And you might use condoms without spermicide in the future.  The spermicide helps prevent pregancy, but doesn't improve STD prevention beyond what the condom itself does.

I'm still having the stinging pain in the beginning of urination-it does subise a bit after the initial urine comes out.  I took all the antibiotics yesterday and am still a bit concerned about infection of some sort.  I inspected the penile tip/opening a bit and it looks ok-no sever redness or bumps.  Sorry just nervous it could be soemthing viral.

I repeat that it is impossible that you acquired an STD that started to cause symptoms while having sex.  And you can't get an infection in your urethra through a condom.  I have nothing more to add.  Do not ask any further questions here.  If you remain concerned, go back to your doctor.
