Night Back Pain

by ThoracicGuy, Dec 17, 2007 11:48AM
Let me preface my question by telling you that I have had Thoracic back pain for about 2 months now.  It is worse at night and sometimes wakes me.  It gets better as the day goes on, and sometimes disappears completely by the end of the day, although lately it does not seem to.  It does not seem to be aggravated by any type of activity.  I have been to my Physician, and I am working with a physical therapist.
My Question: Many of the sites I have visited indicate that back pain that worsens at night may be indicative of a more serious issue.  Many of the sites suggest diagnostic tests to rule out certain things, like tumors, cancer, etc...  However, none of the sites seem to mention why those types of things would cause the pain to worsen at night.  What actually happens, or could happen, in certain medical conditions that would make the pain worsen at night?  Thanks to whomever can provide some explanations - I'm more curious than concerned.
