Pet safe emergency non-electric heating

I live in an apartment with electric heating and no fireplace. I have three birds and a cat.   So I'm looking for a pet-safe non-electric heating source for those power out emergencies.  Any suggestions?

Excellent question. Perhaps there are battery operated items? There are those heat packs that are chemically triggered but not sure they'd be safe to use with pets.
