HS, hypothyroid, pituatary or iron deficiency?

by schoonercutie, Dec 19, 2007 05:45PM
Symptoms: chronic abscesses under armpits, treatment does nothing, remission getting shorter and shorter. Hair loss, brittle nails, cold intolerance. Pain in back and abdomen in areas around kidneys and intestines. Eye twitch and fatigue. I had my thyroid check and it came back a "2" which the doctor told me was normal. But my mother and sister both suffer from thyroid disease.

I have researched what little there is on hidradenitis supportativa (HS) and while my uncurable armpit abscesses seem to go along with this, none of my other symptoms do and if it is HS, then its a very mild case, unlike many other cases or people with HS I have talked to.

Overall, for the past 5 years I've just felt bad, like something was off, but all bloodwork has come back normal. Could this be a simple case of not enough of the right vitamin or mineral, like iron?

Thanks for any input or suggestions as to what this might be.

Hi, although I kind of get the feeling that you are adrenal fatigued (most test won't show it...read up on adrenal fatigue), you are definitely hypothyroid. I was finally diagnosed "sub-clinical hypothyroid" after a lifetime of hell and fog, and now my mind is clear and I returned to nursing school at the age of 57. The adrenal fatigue came from a "naturalist" physician. He gave me Dessicated Adrenal, 2 tabs, twice a day, and within a month I felt like a new woman. I will take it two years and then wean off. Unfortunately I have to stay on the Armour thyroid 135 mg, probably for the rest of my life, in varying doses (it changes a little from season to season). You need to have your Free T3 and Free T4's done. If the results aren't in the upper part of the reference range, it explains why you're doing so badly. Your body long ago destroyed the complete use of your thyroid. The TSH that the doc did was because the Synthroid drug company gave him the information. They consider it the "gold standard." Hogwash! He didn't learn it in school. That test, although is good to see if your pituitary gland is functioning, once established, it is useless for thyroid function testing.
Write if you need anymore info.

Ask to have your thyroid antibodies checked.  I have autoimmune thyroid problems so mine were normal, high, and then low.  I was diagnosed with both Grave's and Hashimoto's because of the variations, but I am now hypothyroid and am on medication.  I feel a lot better.  Check into it.
