Riba cough

There is such a thing as Riba Cough? I've been on 2 antibiotics from my PCP and am still coughing my brains out.......duhhhhh what I have left anyway. Anyone on Advair? Or recommend something for wheezing? I had extensive pulmonary function tests last January and all came back normal. Now since starting tx I have congestion and wheezing and cough. NO I'M NOT QUITTING YET!

I am in wk 26 (i guess) and do not smoke but i do hack up phlem.  It's like it is just sitting there.  I have had this sinus thing going on for about 5 or 6 wks now.  It is driving me crazy.  I did antibiotics for 10 days a couple of wks ago and i still have it.  I guess w the low WBC i will stay sickly?  I go to my liver doc on fri and i think i will demand an antibiotic.  My PCP prescribed the first one (amoxicillian); any suggestions for a stronger better antibiotic?

P.S. I am sure that IF you are a smoker that smoking would exacerbate the famed riba cough...

I'm so congested from the cough, it wears you out as well.
I'm at wk 17 of tx and it's not getting any better
(But not getting worse)
I guess it's something we just have
to deal with on tx.  I noticed the steam from my showers
in the am help loosen some of the phlem.  That helps
a bit, for a little while anyway.

Being a major smoker, I already had a smoker's cough and at times, yes, I could have coughed up a lung or so...Once I started my tx, I was coughing up two lungs.

From what I have seen it is very normal...like wyn said...LOTS of water.

Yeppers, I had that cough as well.  And it really haaaannnnggsssss on.  I pretty much did the same things that Wyntre did.  I also have the advantage of living very close to the Atlantic Ocean and I found that going out on my boat in the sea/salt air quieted my cough almost immediately.  Unfortunately as soon as I got back home it would return.  Heck, at least I got a few hours of relief.  I also sucked on a lot of hard candies.

P.S.  I'm almost 3 weeks in to my second round of treatment and to day I have not gotten the cough.  Gee, wonder how much that has to do with the fact that I quit smoking 8 months ago?  My Riba cough came within the first week of starting the Riba the last time.

mine was always made much worse by smoking.
this is major incentive to quit at least for treatment.

Now that I am done that congestion is finally going away.   Lots of phlem all the time. and no antibiotics did not work..  Its from the Riba I think.. like tiny bubbles.. that keep coming up.. Lots of fluid all the time and wheezing too.. finally free from some of the symptoms slowly but surely..

I smoked too.. but quitting for the New Year.. New life,  new body, and smoke free.. whoo hooo

Unfortunately, riba cough is very common.  Antibiotics probably won't help.

What has helped me over the past 13 months are the following:

LOTS of water
cool-mist humidifier
nasal irrigation with saline solution or plain old oceanspray solution
guaffinissin AKA generic Mucinex- available OTC
Ricola lozenges

Winter heat makes it worse although my condition IS under control probably coz of all the preventative stuff i do.

Don't give up, boni.  What week are you on?
