I am detoxing on Hydrocodone HELP

by PoolGuy, Dec 22, 2007 01:27AM
I lost a finger in June of 2006. After 3 Surgeries I discovered Vicoprofen. I have been taking it ever since. I broke my colar bone last june, 2007 and was prescribed more. 18 months, 30-40 milligrams a day. I had surgery this month on the 4th and realized for the first time that no matter how many pills I took the pain was still there. I also realized that I have not done anything even remotely productive or athletic since my first pill in 2006. I have decided to go cold turkey. My legs keep me up at night and I cannot stop screaming at nothing. Hot water helps but it is not enough. NO one knows I am doing this or even knew I had a problem. How long is this going to last? Is it true this will take a month? Is the vicodin really in my bones? When does my ambitious normal self come back. I just want to be normal again. Help.

it's pretty late for a bunch of responses, but check in the morning too, ok?  I am on day 25 and still not completely "with it".  I can say that the physical symptoms have subsided, but the psychological ones are still very real... I haven't heard of the screaming part, crying though is prominent.  the legs thing went away for me after 2 weeks, tops. I had been taking for years and ny DOC was lortab (+soma +xanax) and i would consume between 12-20 something 10 mg. tabs everyday.  i went c/t too and it was hard, i felt like i wanted to die, like the world would have been better without me here. i decided to wait a few days to see if it was a w/d symptom and would go away- and it did... My 2 cents = just give it sometime, you are in a "hurry up and wait recovery game."  it gets better. _Rebel
PS- welcome

All of what uvlvrebel said is true. I would recommend the Thomas recipe(re-posted in my profile/journals). Following it relieves many of the symptoms of withdrawal. It takes about 4 hard days, then day 5 is usually a bit better. 2 weeks and you are starting to function a little bit more normal. There is still a mental battle but it is better. True energy...I'm not sure. Everyone is different. 1 month, 3 months? The point is you still have to do this, whatever it takes. I do promise that it steadily gets better.

I agree, I'm on day 6, hydrocodone-free and if you check my original post, you can see what I went through.  It's hard but it's totally DO-ABLE.  I feel your whole gym thing, I was a 5 day a week 1-2 hours a day kinda gym guy, until the last couple of yrs on the pills.  I can't say I've made it back to the gym yet (I couldn't walk much the first few days) but I'm WAY better than I was on day 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 and if it weren't the holidays, I would probably head to the gym for a short workout today...

I hope you're still here, this site is great, filled with lots of support and empathy.  All those physical symptoms really do suck and really do go away!

Good luck buddy....I'll keep watchin for you, thinking about you.

To: Thank You
I appreciate all the comments. I was luck enough to be guided to a natural remidy drug store todayand was given some detox vitamins all nayural, and a natural leg stabalizer. They both made a ton opf difference so far, I am not felling so tense and my head is a little clearer. I still am phening for the pills but sooooooo much better. I just hope tinight I can sleep.

Some use Tylenol PM, some Valerian root or melatonin for sleep. Sleep is one of the last w/d symptoms to go bye bye.
Hang in there. You can do this, really.

What do you mean by the last symptoms to go bye bye, meaning I will be not able to sleep like this for a while!

To: Thought People Might Want To Know What I was Given By The Homeopathic Pharmacist
Ultimate Detox and Cleanse (By: Micheal's Naturopathic Programs) 3 doses a day with food and lots of water. I am on dose 2 for the day and 50% of the WD symptoms have subsided. Find It it works. I am going to go throught the 2 weeks like the box recomends and supplies. It supposedly removes the chemical toxins of Vicodin through urine excretion. My legs have been killing me restless as all hell and she gave me a small bottle of "Restless Legs" (By: Hylands) it is a Homepathic tablet that disolves under your tounge and wow is helped so much.
