Twitching

by sawatdeekrup, Dec 23, 2007 04:10PM
I recently went to the doctor because I have been having problems concentrating in school. I told him I feel tired all the time. I get so tired that I become unmotivated and don't feel like doing anything. If I push myself to study, I fall asleep on the desk. The only time I can study is when its the last minute; the night before an exam. He asked me if I have any problems sleeping. The only thing I can think of is my girlfriend told me I twitch in my sleep. Some times it will be just my hand, or another body part and sometimes my whole body. Then he perscribed me to Wellbutrin SR 100mg. It makes me feel great. I feel awake all day and in the morning its been easier to get up. Also I fall asleep without a problem. My question is does depression really cause me to twitch in my sleep or could it be a sleep disorder.

Twitching or involuntary jerking is normal when the body is relaxed.  You have to understand that the brain goes into "standby" mode, if you will, when it goes to sleep.  Your body systems also go into shutdown mode.  More than likely you twitched a lot growing up in your sleep and don't realize it.  The involuntary jerking is basically your body relaxing and finally resting.  Tension subsides and the muscles release along with the brain functions switching to more lucid mindframe.  Have you ever seen a cat or dog in deep sleep?   They twitch also which we interpret as dreaming but its the same concept as what happens with us.  Its less likely the depression and more a natural state.

Your summary is all too familiar and I have been using Valerian Root for years now and love it.  I found no adverse side effects with and in addition to using it for RLS I use it when my "itch from hell" comes.
I like the Valerian Root they carry at WalMart.  It's under $4 and safe.  There are many times that I feel that I need more so I try to wait 30min before another dose.
Hope this helps some.
