Dear doctor,

I took the HIV and RNA test at 25 days after the oral sex receiving incident. Both tests came negative.

As much as I believe in the power of stress I know for a fact that the redness and burning in my throat and chest must be something else. This has been lasting for about 3 weeks now. Also the red spots on the roof of my mouth are still there, not as many but they seemed to have converged into a bigger red spot and the rest kind of faded away. My genitalia is still red and somehow looks dry from the redness. Very rashy on the head sometimes.

Two days ago woke up at night with a strange burning with pain in the plantar part of my feet and also same in my inner hands. The pain is pulsating but the burning is continuous, still have it. Very localized. Yesterday morning I had a small dark red round dot appearing on my palm and it faded away by the next morning. I also have a very small pain and iching on the inner upper side of my biceps below my armpit.

The test I took on the Syphilis was the RPR. My friend in Europe which is a doctor told me to get tested also with the RBW, TPHA and VDRL to make sure that I am 100% negative, RPR being NOT very conclusive.  My doctor won't order them as he thinks that I have no conclusive signs and also told me to gargle with salt for my throat which is a little crazy - I see my capilaries on the back of my throat very red and throat and lungs burning. I know my body very well as I used to be a professional athlete. I know that this is not only stress.

1. What is your oppinion about the above?

2. How can I go around and get these tests so i can get them out of the way?

3. In a month I already have a slip to do the HIV, RNA and the RPR. I am just afraid that this RPR test is just not very good and I am lingering around with a disease in me. What is your opinion about this. I am afraid not to have this in me and give it to my wife or my 2 year old. Could I?

Thank you for your advise.

You previously posted on the HIV site and have now migrated to the STD site with slightly different versions of the same sorts of questions.  On the HIV site you did not want to accept the advice that was given so I must presume you will do the same thing here.  As a result, I will provide 1 answer to your questions and allow you to ask one follow-up question within the limits of a single reply.  All subsequent questions and comments will be deleted.

The rashes and symptoms that you describe are not consistent with STDs and your negative test results confirm this.  If your rash was due to syphilis is would be secondary syphilis in which the RPR test is virtually always reactive.  As you doctor has already told you, to get further syphilis testing would be a waste of time and money.  Your symptoms do not describe syphilis, your doctor tells you your findings are not consistent with syphilis and your blood test is negative.  You do not have syphilis.

You do not need further testing.  I will not advise you on how to circumvent the advice of your doctor.

The RPR test is a very good test.  It is approved by the U.S. FDA and is the worldwide standard for diagnosis of syphilis.

Once again, you have sought information from a "friend" which reinforces your anxiety rather than believing professionals.  This is not healthy.  I urge you to seek professional (psychiatric) help to assist you in addressing your pathological and misplaced anxiety.  Your ill founded concerns are eating you alive.

I hope this helps.  EWH

Dear doctor,

I "migrated" from the other forum to this one due to your help, advise and negative results that I got after 25 days from exposure. I am not an unresonable person and I will see a psychologist as mentioned. Not because I am stressed or guilty - but because I am NOT. And I need to make sure I find out why I do what I do and not feel guilty about it. I want to avoid these issues in the future. I am only scared for me and for my family.

I am not mentioning, as you can see, the redness that I still feel in my face or the redness that I have on my knukles, or on my inner thighs as I do understand that this might as well be due to the fact that I am scared and stressed. However the redness in my throat and burning in my throat and chest is concerning. The rednes and the spots in my mouth are clear to the naked eye and not a pink red on my throat but dark, not spots but simply I can see the capilaries beying inflamed. The spot in my mouth is pink and feels a little tonder when touched with my tongue, the redness on my testicle and irritations on my foreskin and head of penis are also clear.

1.Please give me a logical explanation on what are these things and why I have them?!  This is not formed by guilt because I don't have it and I will see professional help for that.

You read anywhere on the web, your throat is sore and irritated for more than 2-3 weeks see a doctor immediately. Mine tells me to gargle with salt water. I DO LIKE MY DOCTOR but I am having a hard time agreeing with him on this one.

I do have Hepatitis B and my bilirubin was 2000 last spring and now 10th of Dec. showed 19 000. I also have genital herpes but never had an outbreak. The spike to 19000 made me think that I got hit by some sort of virus - but what is it if you tell me that is nothing on STD.

I eat healthy, drink 2-3 glasses of wine a week at most and just by feeling. I don't eat fatty foods, no soda, no junk food.

I am only looking for a logical, reasonable explanation on what I see NOT what I feel anymore. Just what I see and how can I fix it.

Thank you for your time.

I cannot tell you what is causing the symptoms you describe.  As you know, our job is to provide facts related to STDs and HIV, which you have no evidence of.  When symptoms are present, we routinely suggest that those who correspond with us see their own physician.  You have done that and are not satisfied with his/her advice.  At this time you can either return to them or seek and their health care provider.

Again, the symptoms you describe are not typical of STDs or HIV.  This conversation is over.  EWH
