SO MUCH PAIN after root canal, dental scam?

by toomuchpain4514, Dec 29, 2007 07:48AM
Hi.  It's been a few weeks since I had a root canal therapy treatment.  I was referred to an endodontist but postponed this appt. due to lack of insurance and complications.  The dentist had put a temporary putty inside my tooth which has since I think almost all worn away although I can't see a pink inside it's more like a light white.  (I'm so out of it I just misspelled white 3 times even though I'm an excellent speller, bah!)  I'm now trying to get an emergency root canal done, but of course, it's Saturday and I'm sure nothing can even be done until Monday and then it's the Holidays so I'm not sure.  My dentist thankfully allowed another Vicadin perscription, so I'm taking this for the pain although it only covers it up to some extent.  Well, this morning I woke up and wanted to cry, the pain is so excruciating for the first time I'm debating whether I should even eat today.  I'm also taking Clindamycin to try to kill bacteria because I'm pretty sure it's infected.  There is so much pressure, and sometimes I think I can even hear something crackling in the tooth.  When I contacted the dentist his secretery looked in my file and told me he had actually not performed the whole procedure.  Why would he do this??  I have had nothing but problems with this dentist from the start when he tried to fill it up as if a normal cavity to the emergency root canal a few weeks ago.  I am wondering, shouldn't he have known if I would need a root canal when he initially took the x-rays?  I feel as If I'm being taken afool.  He has taken a lot of my out of pocket money and I haven't gotten any relief with the tooth.  Not only am I in way more pain than when I came in, he also treats me as If I'm a drug addict because I have had to ask for prescription pain relievers from all the pain he's caused because I'm not sensitive to acetaminophen and the like much at all.  Please advise me about what you think the tooth is doing and if you think this dentist is up to no good.  I am very fed up over the whole situation.  Thanks in advance.

Find another dentist. It is possible for a root canal to be started but not finished. My dentist started a root canal but couldn't finish and told me right there, he sent me to a specialist, specialist said tooth couldn't be saved so I just had the tooth removed. I strongly think you should find another dentist. Nothing worse than having money drained out of your pocket and still being in pain.
