Why do I do this to myself?

by MJIthewriter, Dec 30, 2007 03:53PM
I get so busy on whatever, I forget to eat. Then I get starving hungry and my mood crashes...  I guess it has to do with not knowing when to stop an activity once I get involved...

Well I'm off to eat lunch. I just thought I'd post this for any other souls out there with the same problem... at least they aren't alone and if anyone posts here, then I know I'm not alone.

Yeah, I do that too.  I make sure my daughter is fed, has her snack, and has her lunch, but I get caught up in feeding her, cleaning up, cleaning her up, and then playing toys, I usually don't eat breakfast until her snack time.  And sometimes when I make my breakfast she eats my breakfast in addition to her snack and I can't remember if I ate it or not when the plate is just empty.  At least I know my daughter is well fed.  :)  She also knows where the cereal is kept in a lower cabinet and she helps herself if she's extra hungry.  At least she doesn't forget to eat.   One thing that is if it is in our house I will eat for breakfast and not forget is donuts.  Donuts are my weakness, and we don't have them that often at all (maybe two or three times a year we might get a half dozen).  But those mornings, trust me, I remember to eat breakfast.  :)

So, are there any people out there who get so busy and caught up in stuff they put the cereal boxes in the refrigerator and the milk in the closet?  Or am I the only one who does that?  :)

I've caught myself doing that with cereal boxes, then I'm like "wait a sec...that doesn't go there..."  Most breakfasts I don't eat cereal. It didn't fill me too well.  Instead I eat a couple pop-tarts and some oatmeal.  Sometimes I just eat the pop-tarts and then go up stairs to do whatever.  Interesting about the donuts.  I used to like them, but now I seem to be very picky about the ones I like.  I do like the ones with chocolate frosting inside.  I like to eat the frosting by itself. If I can, I get a cup and a spoon. I scoop out the frosting and eat the donut first and then the filling. One advantage to this odd way of eating a filled donut, I don't get a mouthful of sticky when I bite in. ;)

I have the same problem, and my husband gets on me about eating.  So now--I am mostly disciplined about eating on time, and I try not to miss.

I hate stopping once I have begun...

I have the same problem too, have done for years.  I also found that when I did eat I usually fell asleep a couple of hours later.  I don't have autism, but I do have Fibromyalgia and I too have been helped by diet.  Mainly cutting out simple carbs (especially sugar) and any stimulants such as coffee/tea/alcohol etc and by making sure I eat a small nutricious snack every 2 hours.  This will help regulate blood sugar level and stop the mood swings and irritability and increase energy levels.  The most useful professional I have found was the nutricianist.
I too don't think that any diet will 'cure' you.  But it can help you function better, and when you are struggling every little helps!
