? kidney problems

by Noo810, Jan 01, 2008 12:28PM
My 7 year old son has had two urine 'infections'  within the last 2 months. On both occasions the GP tested the urine with a dipstick and told me he had infection, protein cells, red cells and other things in the sample.  The last sample was sent to the labs and came back as being clear of infection but blood was present.  He had symptoms of wetting and urgency and had to wear incontinence pads.  This has all now cleared up with antibiotics.  He also had a large rash over his chest/abdomen and dry, red skin on his hands, which is also now clearing up.  He also had a chesty cough and two small lumps appearing - one on his chest near his armpit and one on his neck.  He is as active and happy as ever, but looks pale and unwell and I'm worried that there is something going on.  I'm obviously worried about his kidney function.  Our GP will decide if a paediatric referral is necessary depending on the latest urine results.  How far should I push the GP for a referral and what sort of things would they be looking for?

Thanks from a very worried Mum!
