I had both eyes done in October 07, its been two months. I have dark rings around my eyes and glare is a big problem, it's terrible. I wear sunglasses all the time, even watching TV. My eye doctor said he doesn't know what causing the rings around the eyes and he said glare is expected after cataract surgery. I spoke to some relatives and friends who have had their eyes done and most of them don't have dark rings and glare isn't a problem. Is there anything I can do to correct this problem?..

Before you get too discouraged - I had cataract surgery in Nov., 2007 without any problems. I was so anxious to get fitted with new glasses and get on with life. Well, it didn't happen. I had 3 sets of lenses before I was able to adjust EXCEPT for glare which was the worst feeling of all. I read on this site about TheraTears Nutrition for dry eyes and glare.I decided I had nothing to lose after fighting this for over 2 months. The directions suggest relief in 6-8 weeks but in only 3 days my whole life changed and my problems were solved. At first, it was hard for me to believe and I kept thinking this wouldn't last. Although, I still have to wear sunglasses outside but I'm not squinting, etc. with different lighting in other areas. I cannot tell enough people how wonderful it is to be "normal" again. Good luck and don't ever give up hope. You just might find a solution that fits your problems.

The dark rings around your eyes probably have nothing to do with cataract surgery.  You may have never been able to see your eyes in a mirror in many  years without glasses which would have hidden the dark rings.  Basically, I cannot figure a way the surgery could cause the dark rings.  Some glaucoma drops like xalatan, travatan or lumigan can actually cause some darkening around eyes though.

Now regarding glare you will notice vision to be quite a bit brighter after cataract surgery so I am not sure if you are just noticing much brighter vision or real glare.  If you have real glare then you should make sure you have proper glasses prescription and wear sunglasses as needed.  Make sure you don't need a yag capsulotomy and that you don't have a problem with your implant or a corneal disorder.
