cut in my vagina, help!

my boyfriend and i have not had intercourse yet, but about two months ago and my vagina happened to get scratched by his fingernail and i bled. ever since, once in a while when we are sexually active, i will bleed again, and then we will stop for about 3 weeks to try to let it heal. I've never been to a gynecologist and i don't have a lot of money, so i am not sure this is an option for me... is it possible for me to go sterile? and is there anything i can do to help it heal?
