reflux in 6 wo?

How would I know if my 6 week old has reflux vs normal spit up?  She's big, gaining weight fine but spits up a lot, both during, immediately after and up to 2 hrs after a feeding.  She's using Enfamil gentelese formula.  She seems to have a horse cough often, trouble falling asleep though she sleeps well once asleep, fusses for the bottle but then screams if i take it out to burp her during a feed.  USed to be pretty mellow, but past few days has been a little fussy for no reason and having trouble setting to sleep. thanks in advance.

my son was around 6 weeks old when he started having problems with acid reflux.  He began by throwing up his entire bottle as soon as we were finished giving it to him and like you said up to two hours later.  As it got worse he began to stop drinking because of the pain.  He started to lose weight.  He had the same problems with sleeping.  One thing that seemed to help him was when we switched to good start formula.  He ended up having to be on medicine which also helped with the acid reflux.  I would strongly suggest talking to your pediatrician. We had a hard time convincing our pediatrician that he was having trouble with acid reflux and not just the normal spitting up.  I hope this helps.  Jayson

Sounds like reflux. My mother also calls it the 6 week syndrome.  Its when their gut starts changing and growing. Does she have bad breath, drooling, rash on checks? Also - take a stool sample in and have the dr check for blood - possible milk allergy.

All three of my kids went through simular symtoms.  They were put on other formulas such as Nutramigin (spelling ?) and over the counter gas relief for babies.  Check with your doctor first.  My kids had allergies to the formula.

I breastfed then when I switched to formula after 4 months.. She was having projectile vomiting. She was put on alimentum and it pretty much cleared up the problem.
She was later diagnosed with acid reflux done by a barium shallow. She was put on liquid zantac and then prevacid. Once she turned a year old and started whole milk she no longer had signs on  acid reflux

good luck with it tho
