Is it a common trait of Downs for children to chew on thier hands and fingers. We have a foster daughter and she is constantly chewing her fingers. Any ideas on how to stop this behavior?

I've taken care of two DS children in my daycare. Both have chewed their hands (Fingers).  The children where given "T's" which are basicly a soft rubber chewable "t"..They were attatched to the childen via a Pacifier leash and when I (we) saw the children chewing on their fingers we corrected them and had them chew on the "T"...Hope this helps
