I have Herpes Zoster

Herpes Zoster is contracted non-sexually. It occurs in people who have had the chicken pox virus, and after many years it resurfaces. It is also known as Shingles. I currently have it on the right side of my face. The blisters do not bother me, but my right eye is swollen shut. I would like to know when my eye should expect to get better? I have only seen a doctor 3 days ago. I was prescribed Acyclovir to take 5 times a day for 5 days. However, I have seen little improvement. I had a series of tests performed, and a CAT-SCAN, all which turned out good. Has anyone had Herpes Zoster? And what is the best way to deal with it? The medicine makes me extremely sleepy, and I'm very sensitive to light. Thank you.

Take the drugs and let time work it out. Shingles is an annoying disease as all of this herpes **** is but I think I read somewhere you do NOT want it on the tip of your nose. I believe if it makes its way out there it could blind you. I forget exactly what the connection between that point and the eye is.

Also the 5x/day doses are a pain - do you have decent insurance to get valtrex or famvir affordably? You take those less often for zoster.  Info on both of their websites on the doses for more info.

The herpes antivirals only help to speed the healing of lesions but that doesn't happen over night - even for zoster. What dose of acyclovir are you taking?  Did they do a lesion culture that came back as + for zoster?
