calcium

hi , i have just been told i have osteopenia of the lumber spine/hip/neck,  my dr has me taking 1700mg of calcium a day and 1200 of vit D, i have heard that to much calcium can cause heart problems is this true and , am i taking what i need for my bones am so close to have osto .5 away from it so hoping to avoid it . thanks ahead of time.Barbara

Read my journal entry for calcium--just click on my photo.  I wrote about the latest heart calcium stody.  How old are you?  You should get your calcium levels checked by your doctor, examine your diet, and do weight bearing exercise--then you can determine how much calcium you need.  You might not need as much as you did in your younger years.

thank you for your input am 48 and had total  hys when i was 23 so i have had a bone scan in dec and it shows an so close to having osto, so am trying to get my bones in better shape but scared to take the calcium because of the heart/stroke. going to bone dr next week see just how bad and talking to my cardio dr to. thanks so much. barbara
