Anus Pain

Ok, I'm not sure where to post this, but hopefully I'm in the right spot.  My 3 1/2 yr old son started screaming in the middle of the night on Saturday that his butt hurts.  It is the actual anus that hurts.  I called the pediatrician last night because it hasn't gotten any better and he sent us directly to the ER to be seen and get some cultures.  The ER did a culture...although it was from his underwear that was placed in the trash by a nurse.  That was his first time for diarrhea during all of this.  The hospital sent us home after getting the stool and urine sample.  
His diarrhea has some form to some of it and mucus for the rest.  It is brown, but with a hint of yellow and smells like a dirty hamster cage...or a pig pen as my husband says.  He has explosive gas with this as well.  He recently started saying the his tummy hurts too.  I have worked in healthcare and have seen and smelled C-Diff...however it has been a while so I don't really remember the smell.  
C-Diff is the only thing I know of in the bowel that causes this type of stuff.  My main question is, what can I do to help him?  He just screams that it hurts and I can't do anything about it.  The pain comes and goes.  What else could this be?

Weird... my son had a lot of the same stuff, but with exteremly high fever.. they ran tests on him for days.. still they dont know what caused it... though, he also had vomitting with his does your son??? the only thing a doctor has ever said that is possibly may be (rare though) is cyclic vomiting syndrome.... But they dont know. They told me to tell the hospital when he has another fit of it to test him for it.

I seen c-diff as well as I work in the nursing field. And that has a real foul smell like rotten fruit if you will, and its normally like orange-brown in color(the bm) and it almost always has mucus in it.. Normally from what I seen people who get this , get it from too many antibiotics

Has you son been on any antibiotics before you noticed this?

No, he hasn't been on any anitbiotics.  I actually just talked to the dr. and to both of our surprise, there is nothing showing on the culture they did.  My son still complains about the pain though.  And he seems to not be able to control his bm.  However, the dr suggested we put him on gycolax, or however you spell it, because my son does tend to hold in his bm and it usually is hard.  The dr seems to think that it is just from him holding it and his body trying to push it out.  I hope that is all this is.

My daughter has been complaining of pain in her bottom for a few days now.  She's 3 and a half.  For the last two days, she's pooped in her pants (very uncommon for her to do this) so I have to assume that she's bearing down to relieve some pressure ????  I really don't know but I'm guessing this is the case.

I've asked her where it hurts and she'll put her finger right on her anus.  I can't seen anything - no rash, etc.  She's always being supervised by me so I know she hasn't been inappropriately touched.  I'm really puzzled and I want to help her.  

We'll visit our Pediatrician tomorrow if the pain continues (it's off and on) but I'm not optimistic that the problem will be diagnosed or remedied since I've been madly Googling for two hours and I've found plenty of references to this problem but no diagnosis or remedy.

Did you ever find out what this was? my daughter has been complaining of the same, with no rash/redness or anything abnormal in the area, she's not constipated, and we thought it was just because she 'needed to poop'. But she's woken up 2x tonight complaining of it, in tears.  I just know she's going check out fine at the peds... SHe's 2 1/2 thanks!

Let me know what you find out.  My 2 yr old does this too.  Doc said it's bm related.  I noticed the other postes are a few months old, so don't know if original poster will post an update.
