Hydrocele and Varicocele

by Lalomanu, Jan 08, 2008 01:43AM
I'm in my forties and I've just been diagnosed a varicocele on my left testicle, and a hydrocele on my right testicle. I took an ultrasound scan, which revealed no tumors either in my abdomen or scrotum. My urologist said that surgery is not advisable at this stage, unless I had an unbearable pain.
My major concern is the future evolution of both testicles, which precautions I should take to avoid these problems getting worse. I know it will affect my fertility, but at my age is not a big issue. However, I'm worried about a future testosterone deficit.
Another question: When I was a teenager I used to wear tight jeans (they were very fashionable in the 80´s). Could the varicocele or the hydrocele have been caused by this?

I also had a hydrocele in one of my testicles and a varicocele in the other. My urologist advised to have the hydrocele operated when it was a burden (because of the size), but the varicocele affects fertility. He also said the varicocele probably developped itself when the testicles descent into the scrotum and get caught in arterias around the kidneys. If the varicocele developped recently, it will probably have nothing to do with this.
Another thing my urologist mentioned is that the hydrocele has little effect other than being in the way. Ofcause I can't compare our situations, but I hope my experience helps you a bit.
