help! 4 years with no proper diagnosis

by redrocket, Jan 09, 2008 02:13PM
I am a 39 year old female.  4 years ago i woke up with some urgency....tested and tried everything.  The first year was unbearable; acute urgency/frequency, burning and heaviness. Up and down a bit but at least the last year has been liveable. Since December 1st, it has been bad again...never as bad as it was the first year, but extreme urgency and frequency. Affecting bladder region and someone around the vaginal/urethral area too.

Seen 10 doctors (urologist and gynos, and uro/gynos), taken many many drugs to no avail. Have had two cystoscopies (both negative), potassium test (negative), MRIs, ultrasounds, urodynamics, bladder diliation, laparoscopy...etc..  Nobody can come up with an answer.  It is not IC.  The Urologist i have seen from begining has done cystoscopy and diagnostic surgery....i don't fit.....ie....bladder is fine, no pain or difficulty to void....this has been getting better, food doesn't effect it....etc... NOT IC.

One MRI said i have enlarged blood vessels in the area. That may be nothing. I have two small fibroids. Have been pregnant a number of times...no births.  Booze often numbs it.

HELP!  Everyone has given up on me....they don't know and aren't going to go out on a limb to look into this. I have a couple of questions for you;
1) Could the enlarged blood vessels be a sign of the problem?
2) could this be nerve based? (CES) sometimes i get shooting nerve pain through my urethral/vaginal/anal area.  Sledding mishap when i was 15.....hit a rock with my tailbone at full speed.  Tailbone still very sore sometimes.
3)  Is there a way to denervate the area?  Kill nerves in bladder area.
4) Could this be psychosomatic?  Have hated my career for 4 years now...very stressful and this came on when it was at it's worst.  Body and mind are very connected....i get sick when i am stressed out.

Please, please, please.....any ideas at all.  I am sending urine out for something called a broth culture and am thinking about hysterectomy.

Much thanks.

Do you have pain with intercourse? Do you have pain when you try to have gynecologic exams?

If this is the case, you may have pelvic floor trigger points in the muscles which can feel like a sense of urinary urgency. If your gynecologic workup is completely negative, you may benefit from an evaluation by a qualified pelvic floor physical therapist. They may be able to diagnose myofascial pain in your pelvic floor muscles. If you have painful triggerpoints, they can usually help you to get rid if them and fix the problem. Make sure they have been trained in pelvic floor physical therapy.  Pllease let the Forum know how this goes for you.
