Extreme tiredness - related to carbs?

by Clinton167, Jan 10, 2008 02:55PM
Recently, within the last few weeks, at almost exactly 6.45 every evening, I've been so tired that I need to lay down and sleep, or I will literally just fall asleep wherever I am. An hour and half later, I'm fine.
Someone told me it could be that I'm eating too many carbs - I always have them at dinner, at 5 oclock. I thought maybe it was down to working out, or even stress (had quite of bit of college work to do lately).
If anyone reckons they know what it might be, or if it might be worth leaving carbs out of my evening meal for a while to see what happens, I'd love to hear your opinions!

Thanks

Clinton

Oh, PS. I am a 5'9 female, used to play college volleyball (gave up last semester). work out about an hour and a half a day.

I played volleyball too:)

Get a blood test to rule out anemia.
I eat lots of carbs and don't have the problem, but if you think carbs are the problem then try pairing it with a protein.  Like pasta and shrimp.  Or peanut butter and bread.

Also, I get tired just like that about week before my period begins.  My blood count is already low a week in advance.

I have felt exactly the same way! If I've eaten too many carbs I will feel almost like a zombie. I will feel an immediate tiredness and like I have to lay down and go to sleep. Just today I noticed I felt that way and thought about what I had eaten. I had toast this morning and a frozen burrito and spanish rice for lunch. I realized that it was a lot of carbs and no veggies or fruit there. I also think I get this way when I'm dehydrated so I try to watch how much water I'm drinking. I can totally relate, though! I wonder what causes us to feel this way? Blood sugar? I'd be interested in finding out.
