Daily pain in hands/wrists

by Corvinus, Jan 10, 2008 09:57PM
I'm 23 and for several months now I have had daily pain in my hands that sometimes stems along my wrists and to my elbow which throbs. The pain is usually concentrated along my palms and my thumbs and then the tips of my fingers. IE, the joints really. The pain intensifies in the cold and nothing seems to help relieve it except for heat pads/soaking them in hot water and even then it's just a brief relief. My joints also crack a lot. If I rotate my thumbs or wiggle my fingers there's always a cracking sound as if I were cracking my knuckles. My thumb area often feels tight and the only way to relieve that is by 'cracking' it. I also sometimes get aches and pains in my arms/neck and my feet sometime have the same aches or throbbing.

I've been to my doctor several times. The first they prescribed me anti-flammetry drugs which was mostly used for arthritis and similar things but it didn't do much to help the pain. They don't think I have carpal tunnel and the second visit I was sent for a blood test for rhuematoid athritis which came back negative. The third time I was scheduled an EMG/Nerve conduction test as they thought it might be something to do with the median nerve and I got the results back today which said everything was normal.

I was a heavy computer user when I was younger and though I've considerably cut back and taken to wearing splints or other things to help, I'm getting little relief and starting to wonder if I'll ever figure out what's going on.

have you ever had a neck injury? whiplash ect, id ask for an mri of your neck, it sounds like you may have pressure on one of the nerves in the neck area possibly due to a herniated disk. i only say this because i know the one nerve root there is responsibl for pain in the thumb/palm areas as i have a neck injury myself, hows your upper back and how often are you on the computer a day and how many times a week. even using a computer for a half hour a day can be crippleing to some people
