Prozac for brain Plasticity?Other Choices?

by Cheesegobbler, Jan 11, 2008 04:33AM
My husband survived a grade III oligoastrocytoma, gross resection to his frontal left lobe, followed by Radiation and currently six rounds of preventive Temodar and Accutane. He has very little damage other than the expected fatigue, sickness for chemo occassional and personality changes. He's been taking 40 mg of Prozac daily, for "Brain plasticity" but he doesn't notice any improvement on that....but still complains of depression, lack of motivation and occasional confussion with chronological thinking/word finding. He is becoming increasingly, paranoid, short tempered and manic at times. He takes Keppra to prevent seizures, but he only had one  single grand mal seizure the night before his tumor was diagnosed,  no previous history there. I want to suggest a more effective antidepressant to his doctor that will give him some relief from the depression with fewer side effects. Are there any that are compatible with Keppra and someone who has a history of malignancies? Cymbalta? Others? Don't want to make things worse, just improve his quality of life.
