Urgently Need Answers Please

by mandy111, Jan 12, 2008 04:17AM
This is my third post about the same issue. Please i need some answers.
My 64 y/o mom had a sinus surgery about a month ago. She's been paying the ENT regular visits and everytime he cleans her nose under a local anethetic where he washed down mucus and blood.
Her nose's still blocked ,she has severe headache, cheekbone and eye pain, been on over 6 diff. antibiotics ,antihistamines and painkillers and she still can't blow her nose as the mucus seems to be accumulating in her nose and sometimes she feels it going down her throat.
My question is how long does it normally take for a sinus surgery to heal and is she on the right track with all the meds. she's in?
Thank you .

Since she has been keeping her scheduled post op visits, I assume all is well thus far.  Severe headache and eye pain would concern me, but it's impossible to tell without seeing her.

Normally there is some congestion, pain, and discharge after surgery.  It is common to see patients every week after surgery for about 4-6 weeks for cleaning and debridement.  I have patients irrigate their nose with a saline solution (about 12oz at a time, not just a spray) to help further clean the area.  It really depends on how extensive the surgery was.  Ask her surgeon if things are going as expected or if her recovery is a little slower than most.
