spastic paraparesis

by ramonica, Jan 12, 2008 01:17PM
My two and a half year old nephew has been diagnosed with spastic paraparesis. He is unable to walk on his own still, but he does walk if he holds on to something. He has been undergoing treatment for about 1 1/2 years now, and there seems to be good improvment in hs condition. At the moment he is taking Risatarun (not sure if the name of the medicine is very accurate, since they live in Europe) and a B vitamin complex. He is also doing phisycal therapy.
The last doctor that has seen him want to start him on a steroid treatment and we are a bit concerned about that. Is that safe?
Also, is this something that is considered a permanent condition, or is it something reversible?
Thank you
